Metal Stocks Surge in India Amid Global Commodity Price Increases
Metal stocks in India have seen significant gains over the past month due to rising global commodity prices, supply disruptions, and higher demand amid the West Asia conflict.
The sectoral benchmark index, Nifty Metal, has delivered more than 4% returns in the last one-month period, outperforming the broader market indices. This is largely attributed to companies such as Vedanta, Hindustan Zinc, and Hindustan Copper benefiting from higher metal prices, particularly copper and aluminium.
Experts predict that key focus will remain on commodity prices, supply disruptions, input cost trajectory, and anti-dumping norms in the upcoming period. Saikat Kumar of Red Lions Capital DIPMarket notes that India's metals and mining sector is entering FY27 with improving fundamentals after a strong recovery in Q4 FY26.
Hindalco, Vedanta Aluminium, and National Aluminium have also seen significant gains, with returns ranging from 8% to 40.6%. However, concerns remain over near-term pressures in the market, including anti-dumping rulings on imports into India and the durability of aluminium supply disruption.
