MGL Hikes CNG Price by ₹2 Amid Middle East Crisis Pushing Up Global Energy Costs
Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has increased the price of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and domestic Piped Natural Gas (PNG) due to rising global energy costs. The CNG price in and around Mumbai will be ₹88 per kg, up from ₹86 per kg previously, while PNG prices have been raised by ₹1 per standard cubic meter (SCM).
The company cited higher input costs, particularly the sharp rise in natural gas prices linked to international benchmarks, as the reason for the price hike. MGL also mentioned strong demand for CNG and the increased cost of imported spot regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG), which accounts for a substantial share of the gas supplied to the CNG segment.
The revised rates come into effect from midnight on September 1, and will affect around 13 lakh CNG vehicles across Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Latur, Dharashiv in Maharashtra, as well as Chitradurga and Davangere in Karnataka. Domestic PNG consumers will also face higher bills, with MGL raising prices by ₹1 per SCM.
