MGL Jumps CNG Price in Mumbai Amidst Rising Input Costs

Mumbai Gas Limited (MGL) has announced an increase in Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Piped Natural Gas (PNG) prices for consumers in Mumbai, effective from September 1. The CNG price will rise by ₹2 per kg to ₹88 per kg, while the PNG price will increase by ₹1 per Standard Cubic Meter (SCM).

The company cited a significant increase in demand for CNG, with a substantial portion of the gas required for this segment being sourced from imported spot regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG). The West Asia crisis has led to higher input gas prices linked to international indices, increasing MGL's cost of sourcing gas.

MGL stated that it now needs to source gas at higher spot RLNG prices to meet the increased CNG demand. This increase in input costs has affected the overall cost of gas supplied by MGL. However, the ₹2-per-kg hike is intended to partially offset these higher costs and ensure continued CNG supply.
