Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has raised the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) by ₹1 per kg in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, effective November 1. The new rate stands at ₹90 per kg, marking the third increase in roughly two months.
The latest hike comes just days before Diwali, adding to the financial strain on households and businesses during the festive season. MGL cited the ongoing conflict in West Asia and higher costs of imported gas as the primary reasons for the price adjustment.
The increase will impact around 12.93 lakh CNG vehicles in the region, including autorickshaws, taxis, private cars, and public transport buses. Drivers who rely on CNG daily are expected to feel the pinch the most.
This is the third price hike in recent weeks, following a ₹2 per kg increase in September and another ₹1 per kg rise in October. MGL stated that it had no choice but to pass on the higher procurement costs to consumers.
