Michigan has become the state with the highest average weekly gasoline price surge in the nation. According to recent data, the state's gas prices have set a new all-time high for diesel at $6.81 a gallon and nearly $5 a gallon for gasoline, up over 60 cents from just a week ago.

Michigan drivers are paying an average of $74 to fill a 15-gallon tank of gasoline, nearly $10 more than what they were paying a week ago. This sharp jump highlights the continued volatility of the global oil market and its impact on drivers.

The price surge is attributed to several factors, including refinery issues in Midwest states, war in the Middle East, and damage to refineries and shipping routes. Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, noted that regional refinery issues have sent prices up more than 30 cents per gallon for Michigan, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Wisconsin.
