Mid-Michigan Sweet Corn Prices Rise Amid Fuel and Fertilizer Costs

Reese Farms in DeWitt Township has increased its sweet corn price due to rising costs. Farmer Robert Reese said that fuel, fertilizer, seed, and insurance expenses have contributed to the decision to raise prices from $9.00 per dozen to $9.50 per dozen. Despite this increase, customers continue to flock to the farm during the mid-Michigan sweet corn season.

Reese emphasized that maintaining profitability is crucial for sustaining the farm's operations. He stated, 'It's a delicate balance, and we would like to make enough so we can do this again next year.' The farm owner acknowledged the time, money, and labor invested in growing sweet corn, describing it as 'not a cheap thing to grow.'

Reese Farms has experienced an influx of customers since raising its prices. He expressed gratitude for their support, saying, 'We're just so thankful for customers to come out. It's just a tremendous feeling to look out and the driveway's full, and the corn is leaving about as fast as we can pick it.'
