Middle East Conflict Drives Up Gas Prices in Idaho
Gas prices in Idaho have spiked by 18 cents from last week to an average of $4.23 per gallon, according to AAA. The increase is attributed to the escalating conflict in the Middle East, which has put pressure on the global crude oil market.
The crude oil price has risen to nearly $88 a barrel after Houthi rebels attempted to block oil shipments from Saudi Arabia through the Bab al-Mandab Strait. This disruption has added to the volatility of the oil market, causing prices to fluctuate as the situation evolves.
Oil tankers are struggling to navigate the Strait of Hormuz, and an alternative route through the Mediterranean Sea could delay shipments by triple their normal times. As a result, Idahoans are paying more for gas than people in many other states, with only 11 states having higher prices.
