Middle East Conflict Escalates as Iran Strikes American Forces
The conflict in the Middle East escalated on Wednesday as Iran launched a barrage of missiles at American forces in the region, prompting the US and Saudi Arabia to strike Tehran-backed militias in Iraq. At least 20 fighters were killed and 32 others wounded in the overnight strikes.
The flare-up on multiple fronts raised concerns about a return to all-out war and put pressure on global energy markets. Brent crude prices jumped 3.1% to $84.58 a barrel after the renewed hostilities.
Jordan's military intercepted five Iranian missiles, destroying them without causing any damage or casualties.
