On September 7-8, 2026, tensions in the Middle East escalated as Iran and its allies responded to US attacks on Iranian oil tankers. The US destroyed five of these tankers after Tehran fired missiles at a US warship twice over two days.

The Houthi rebels in Yemen launched a wave of attacks against Saudi Arabia's southern region, causing fires at several oil facilities and utilities and injuring 73 people. This marked a major escalation in the conflict between the Houthis and Saudi-backed government forces in Yemen, which shattered a four-year truce in the country's civil war.

The UK announced it will ban trade with Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, citing concerns that an expansion program there is endangering efforts to establish a Palestinian state. Israel responded by saying it will close the British consulate in Jerusalem and expel UK representatives from a joint military center monitoring the Gaza ceasefire.
