Middle East Tensions Fail to Spark Oil Price Spike
Oil markets have shown unexpected resilience despite renewed tensions in the Middle East, according to market commentator Doomberg. Speaking at the Vancouver Resource Investment Conference, he suggested that traders do not expect a major disruption to global supply, even as geopolitical risks dominate headlines.
Doomberg pointed out that oil prices pulled back following heightened rhetoric between the United States and Iran, indicating that markets are 'pricing in prudence' rather than panic. He noted that expectations of severe supply shortages may be overstated, citing reduced demand from major consumers such as China as one factor helping to stabilise prices.
The commentator also touched on the role of the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which has been drawn down in recent years. Doomberg said that in a worst-case scenario, export controls could be used to protect domestic supply, limiting the impact on US fuel prices.
