Middle East Tensions Send Gas and Diesel Prices Soaring in Huntsville
The ongoing conflict in the Middle East is causing gas and diesel prices to rise in Huntsville. The average price of gas has reached $3.87 a gallon, while diesel costs nearly $6 per gallon, according to GasBuddy.
Patrick De Haan, Head of Petroleum Analysis with GasBuddy, explained that the closure of the Strait of Hormuz is not the only factor contributing to high prices. He stated that Ukraine's attacks on Russia's oil refineries have also disrupted Russia's ability to export its large supply of diesel.
The increasing costs are affecting various sectors, including local farmers, school districts, and trucking companies. Huntsville-based 256 Trucking has seen a significant increase in diesel expenses, with the company spending up to $22,000 per week on fuel. This is a substantial jump from the pre-war levels of around $15,000.
The company's president, Jim Wall, noted that they have had to pass the extra cost onto their customers. He emphasized that while some clients understand the situation, others are reaching their breaking point due to the high fuel costs.
