Middle East Tensions Send Oil Prices Surging Towards Six-Week High
Crude oil prices have surged to six-week highs as tensions in the Middle East escalate. West Texas Intermediate is trading above $93 a barrel, while Brent crude futures are marching back towards the $100 a barrel mark, currently over $97 a barrel.
The rise in oil prices comes after Saudi Aramco's oil facilities were hit in fresh attacks on Monday, according to a report by the Financial Times. The strike came after the U.S. military hit three Iranian oil tankers, driving up gas prices higher.
In the U.S., gasoline prices have topped $4 per gallon, hitting a record high for Labor Day. Iran has taken aim at Canada for supporting U.S. action in the Strait of Hormuz, calling it an attempt to 'appease' the U.S.
