Middle East Tensions Send UK Gas Prices Soaring
UK natural gas prices rose sharply on Wednesday after a two-day decline, driven by renewed hostilities in the Middle East. The conflict between Iran and the US has heightened concerns over prolonged supply disruptions, impacting Europe's gas supply outlook.
The US military intercepted multiple missiles launched by Iran, ending a brief lull in fighting between the two sides. This escalation worsens the situation for European buyers, who are racing to replenish storage ahead of winter.
Supply concerns were further exacerbated by reports that QatarEnergy has extended its force majeure for European buyers until at least September 30th, making it harder for Europe to secure gas supplies.
