MidOcean Energy Joins Phase 2 of LNG Canada Expansion
MidOcean Energy, an LNG company formed and managed by EIG, has announced its participation in Phase 2 of LNG Canada. This follows the Final Investment Decision (FID) made by the LNG Canada joint venture partners on September 29, 2026. MidOcean's participation is a result of its acquisition of a 20% interest in the North Montney Upstream Joint Venture and a 20% interest in the North Montney LNG Limited Partnership.
Phase 2 will add two liquefaction trains to LNG Canada's facility in Kitimat, British Columbia, increasing production capacity from 14 mtpa to 28 mtpa. This expansion is expected to provide access to abundant Canadian natural gas resources and competitive shipping routes to key Asian markets.
MidOcean's participation in Phase 2 will increase associated LNG volumes from 0.7 mtpa to 1.4 mtpa, deepening its position across the integrated LNG value chain. De la Rey Venter, CEO of MidOcean, stated that participating in Phase 2 is a natural next step for the company, and it has strengthened its partnership with PETRONAS while advancing its strategy of investing in high-quality, globally competitive LNG assets.
