MidOcean Energy Secures $4 Billion for Global LNG Expansion
MidOcean Energy, a leading liquefied natural gas (LNG) company, has successfully concluded its capital-raising efforts for 2026, amassing over $4 billion in equity commitments. The amount far exceeds the initial target of $2 billion, reflecting strong investor confidence in the firm’s growth prospects. The funds will support the company’s expansion plans and solidify its position in key LNG export markets.
The capital was secured from a diverse group of international investors, including sovereign wealth funds, financial institutions, and strategic partners. Notable participants include the Private Department of Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalid Al Nahyan, Idemitsu Kosan, NYK Line, and South Korean financial institutions. Existing shareholders also reinvested, further strengthening MidOcean’s shareholder base.
R. Blair Thomas, Chairman of MidOcean and CEO of EIG Global Energy Partners, highlighted the company’s commitment to building a resilient and diversified global LNG platform. He emphasized the role of LNG in ensuring energy stability and long-term economic development. De la Rey Venter, MidOcean’s CEO, echoed this sentiment, noting that the successful fundraising aligns with the company’s strategic vision and will drive sustainable value for its partners.
The funds will provide MidOcean with the flexibility to evaluate new producing assets and development projects. The company currently holds strategic stakes in North America, Latin America, Australia, and Canada. Notably, it owns a 35% share in Peru LNG, the only LNG export facility in South America, in partnership with Hunt Oil, Shell, and Marubeni. MidOcean’s global presence is further supported by its marketing office in Singapore and headquarters in London.
