Mirae Asset Debuts Hong Kong's First Copper Mining ETF with Global X
Mirae Asset Global Investments has launched Hong Kong's first copper mining exchange-traded fund (ETF), giving investors diversified access to companies behind global copper supply. The Global X Copper Miners ETF, which debuted on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong under stock codes 3014 and 9014, tracks the Solactive Copper Miners Index.
The index selects up to 30 eligible companies from the Solactive GBS Global Markets All Cap USD Index based on total market capitalization. With a board lot size of 100 shares, the fund began trading at an issue price of US$1 per share on September 15.
Copper prices have surged recently, hitting a new all-time high in early September and trading near US$6 per pound. Global mining supply is expected to remain constrained by aging high-grade deposits, prolonged lead times for greenfield discoveries, and major mine disruptions, according to the International Energy Agency (IEA).
The IEA projects a 30 percent supply shortfall against anticipated demand by 2035, while S&P Global estimates the world will require an additional 14 million metric tons of copper annually to meet demand compared to 2025 production levels.
