MISC and QatarEnergy Launch New LNG Carrier Thailib with Advanced Efficiency
MISC and QatarEnergy have launched the Th’ailib, a new liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier with a capacity of 174,000 cubic meters. The vessel was christened on October 6 at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in South Korea, marking the first of three LNG carriers MISC will add under long-term charter agreements with QatarEnergy.
The Th’ailib is equipped with dual-fuel engines, a reliquefaction system, and advanced antifouling coatings to enhance efficiency and reduce emissions. It also features air lubrication systems and advanced navigation and safety technologies to support safe operations.
QatarEnergy will charter the Th’ailib for 15 years starting in 2026, strengthening its long-term LNG transport needs. This agreement follows MISC’s previous involvement in QatarEnergy’s fleet expansion program, which now includes a total of 15 vessels.
Datuk Zahid Osman, president and CEO of MISC, emphasized the importance of LNG in meeting global energy demands while supporting lower-emission energy systems. The Th’ailib represents a step forward in modernizing maritime operations with lower emissions intensity.
