MISC Lands 10-Year Contract to Ship LNG from Sarawak to Japan

MISC Bhd (KL:MISC) has secured a contract to ship liquefied natural gas (LNG) from PETRONAS' facility in Sarawak to Japan. The deal, signed on behalf of Malaysia LNG Sdn Bhd, will see MISC transport LNG for a firm period of 10 years starting in 2028.

The project supports PETRONAS' continued supply of LNG to Sendai City, Japan, reinforcing a long-standing partnership nearly 30 years old. The national firm's LNG Complex in Bintulu is one of the world's largest single-site production facilities, capable of producing nearly 30 million tonnes annually.

MISC has commissioned Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) Co Ltd to build a carrier with a capacity of up to 18,700 cubic metres of LNG. This new vessel will support MISC's LNG carrier fleet rejuvenation programme, enhancing operational efficiency while reducing greenhouse gas emissions and overall emissions intensity.

The charter party contract specifies that the charterer will be responsible for voyage-related costs such as fuel and port fees, while the shipowner will handle maintenance of the vessel and crew.
