Mnangagwa Pushes for Agro-Processing in Zimbabwe
Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa emphasized the country's commitment to agricultural development and value addition during his address at the 116th Zimbabwe Agricultural Show.
Mnangagwa described agriculture as 'the engine of industrialization, a major source of exports and the cornerstone of food security, self-sufficiency, job creation and empowerment.'
The President highlighted that under the National Development Strategy-2 (NDS2), the country aims to move beyond exporting raw agricultural commodities and focus on local processing to create jobs and retain value within Zimbabwe.
Mnangagwa noted that significant gains have been made in key agricultural sectors, including achieving 100% wheat self-sufficiency for three consecutive years and producing over 2.3 million tonnes of maize in 2025.
