Moheshkhali LNG Transfer Disrupted by Adverse Weather
Adverse weather conditions in the Bay of Bengal have disrupted LNG transfer at Moheshkhali's floating terminals, causing a significant decline in national gas supply.
The supply fell to 2,301 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) at 6 pm on September 24, down from 2,610 mmcfd on September 15. The disruption is attributed to the transfer process of imported LNG from cargo to floating terminals being hampered by adverse weather.
Petrobangla data revealed that domestic gas fields supplied 1,615 mmcfd, while regasified LNG (RLNG) accounted for 686 mmcfd. In a press release, Petrobangla expressed regret for the temporary inconvenience and assured that supply would be restored as soon as possible with an improvement in weather conditions.
The Excelerate-operated FSRU at Moheshkhali was damaged in a fire during a ship-to-ship LNG transfer in July, disrupting gas supply from the terminal for several weeks. Although the terminal gradually resumed operations in August, supply was interrupted again on 19 August after it ran out of LNG.
