Moldova Braces for Challenging Winter Amid Converging Energy Crises
The Republic of Moldova is bracing for a challenging winter as energy expert Eugen Muravschi warns that multiple crises are converging, affecting natural gas, fuel, heating, and electricity. He believes that geopolitical developments have become decisive in determining prices, making it difficult to predict trends.
The price of gas has risen significantly since March, with the European TTF exchange price increasing from 30-35 euros before the war started to 83 euros last week and now at 73 euros. Muravschi warns that if current market rates persist, pressure on domestic tariffs will continue, potentially leading to price hikes for gas and heating.
Eugen Muravschi also points out that the Republic of Moldova's security and emergency gas stocks do not automatically mean lower prices, as they were purchased from the market at existing prices. He emphasizes that the energy market can no longer be analyzed solely through seasonal factors, but rather is influenced by geopolitical developments.
