Moldova Gas Tariffs May Be Adjusted Again Amid Rising Global Prices
The Energy Minister of Moldova has hinted that gas tariffs may be adjusted again due to rising global and European gas prices. The minister stated that the adjustment will depend on the average purchase price for September, which is expected to be known by early October.
The current natural gas tariff for end consumers in Moldova stands at 20.3 lei per cubic meter, having been increased by 41% as of September 1st. The minister attributed the global price fluctuations to several factors, including disruptions to LNG supplies from Qatar, competition between Europe and Asia for liquefied natural gas, European reserves levels, and maintenance work on production facilities in Norway.
The Energy Minister clarified that gas contracts are made in advance based on a formula tied to the TTF (Title Transfer Facility) price. Once the weighted average daily prices for September are known, Energocom will carry out its calculations to determine any necessary tariff adjustments.
