Moldova Prepares for Winter, Diversifies Energy Sources

The government of Moldova has announced that it is well-prepared for the upcoming heating season, which is expected to begin in about a month and a half to two months. According to Vitalie Mîța, State Secretary of the Ministry of Energy, approximately 30% of the electricity is now produced from renewable sources.

The authorities have diversified the gas supply, with up to 40% of the natural gas volume acquired on the free market. Large consumers can contract for gas from regional suppliers, increasing the system's flexibility.

The Transnistrian region's natural gas supply remains a risk factor, but a designated entity is expected to be confirmed by September 15. Mîța emphasized that the government will reassess both the entity and the level of risks, adopting the best solution to prevent potential supply deficiencies.

For households that use wood for heating, authorities assure that there are sufficient reserves for the onset of the cold season. The territorial forestry entities have approximately 75,000 cubic meters of firewood, including 47,000 cubic meters of hard species and 25,000 cubic meters of soft species.
