Moldova Prepares to Intervene in Natural Gas Price Hikes

Moldovan parliament speaker Igor Grosu has announced that the government will intervene to support citizens in case of higher natural gas tariffs. The state aims to reduce administrative costs, which can have an impact on the tariff and make it more affordable for consumers.

Grosu emphasized that the government cannot leave people facing price hikes during the cold season. He noted that the cabinet will introduce support measures for the population, similar to those implemented in previous years.

The parliament speaker highlighted that Moldova's dependence on international markets and geopolitical developments affects the gas price. The country imports all its energy resources, including natural gas, which makes it vulnerable to global quotations and tensions.

Grosu also mentioned that administrative costs can be optimized through domestic decisions. He cited an example of a law adopted by the parliament, stipulating that if two or more natural gas distribution system operators belong to the same founder, their administrative expenses will be recognized in the tariff only once.
