Moldova Regulator Agrees to Nearly 40% Gas Tariff Hike Amid Global Price Surge
The National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) of Moldova has proposed to increase regulated natural gas tariffs for consumers, in response to rising global market prices. The agency's draft decision suggests increasing the price from 13.353 lei per cubic meter to 18.798 lei, excluding VAT. This is lower than the operator Energocom's requested price of 19.38 lei.
Energocom justified the need for a tariff hike due to external factors, including geopolitical events in the Middle East and regional security tensions that have driven up trading quotes on European natural gas markets.
The current regulated prices were approved based on a weighted average purchase price of 404.24 euros per 1,000 cubic meters for 2026. However, market conditions changed significantly since then, with an average purchase price reaching 423.28 euros between January and July this year, and potentially increasing to 623.54 euros by the end of the period.
