Moldova Seeks Another 30% Hike in Gas Tariffs Amid European Price Surge
Moldova's state-owned energy company Energocom has requested a further increase in natural gas tariffs, citing rising prices on European markets. The proposed hike of 30% would bring the cost to $1,371 per thousand cubic meters for the population.
The request is based on recent developments in the European gas market, where prices have surged by 42.15% since July 15. Energocom explains that this increase is due to factors such as geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, reduced supply of liquefied natural gas, and low reserves in Europe.
The current tariffs for the population are $1,060 per thousand cubic meters, which were increased by 41% in September. If approved, the new tariff would be up to 24,305 lei ($1,371) per thousand cubic meters.
