Moldovan Farmers Threaten Mass Protests Over Ukrainian Grain Transit
Moldovan farmers are threatening to take mass action unless their concerns over Ukrainian grain transit through their country are addressed. According to Alexandru Slusari, director of the Farmers' Force association, the situation is a repeat of what happened in 2022-2023 when poor organization led to domestic exports being blocked.
Slusari stated that Moldovan farmers were forced to sell raw materials at significantly lower prices than normal due to these issues. He met with Prime Minister Vasile Tofan who promised to set up a meeting between agricultural representatives and infrastructure ministry officials.
If the issue is not resolved by August 21, Slusari said the association reserves the right to organize mass protests.
