Moldovan Gas Tariffs May Rise as International Prices Soar

Energocom Director Eugen Buzatu warned that Moldovan consumers may face higher natural gas tariffs soon. The company is waiting until September 30 to determine the exact gas price for October, which will then inform a decision on whether to revise the current tariff.

The current tariff of 20.30 lei per cubic meter, including VAT, was increased on September 1. However, the actual cost of purchasing gas already exceeds this price, with Energocom expecting a deficit to accumulate due to the difference between the current tariff and international market rates.

Buzatu noted that European gas prices have been fluctuating, currently standing at around 76-77 euros per MWh on the TTF index, while the figure factored into the current tariff is approximately 56 euros. The accumulated deficit since September 1 has already exceeded 180 million lei.

To mitigate costs, Energocom has decided to cut its own expenses by temporarily suspending employee incentive payments and discontinuing an external IT system.
