Moldova's Energocom Seeks Gas Price Adjustment Amid European Market Surge
Moldova's Energocom has requested an adjustment to regulated gas prices after a significant surge in European gas market quotations. The company cited heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East, reduced liquefied natural gas deliveries, low European storage levels, and competition with Asian markets as external factors contributing to the price increase.
The current average procurement price of approximately 56.25 euros/MWh was used for the August-December 2026 period when regulated prices were approved. However, TTF reference quotations on European markets have since increased by 42.15% and now exceed 75 euros/MWh.
Energocom estimates that the average gas delivery cost for the remainder of this year will be higher than the current regulated price. The company proposes new regulated prices ranging from approximately 18,744 lei to 24,305 lei per 1,000 m³ at different exit points in the transmission and distribution networks.
The decision to approve or reject the request rests with ANRE, which will examine the supporting documents and calculations submitted by Energocom. The company emphasizes that it is monitoring international market developments and will ask for a tariff reduction if prices decline.
