Moldova's Fuel Prices Hit Record High Amid Winter Gas Warning
Fuel prices in Moldova have reached a record high, exceeding 35 lei per liter for diesel. The National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) has set the maximum pump price at €1.82 (approx. 35.53 MDL) per liter for diesel and €1.72 (approx. 33.56 MDL) per liter for standard gasoline.
Regulators attribute the steady increase in fuel prices to rising international oil product benchmarks and currency fluctuations. Brent crude has surpassed $107 per barrel, while global natural gas benchmarks have crossed €83 per megawatt-hour, threatening financial shortfalls for domestic utilities under existing retail rates.
Energy Minister Dorin Junghietu stated that a gas tariff adjustment is becoming increasingly necessary due to market dynamics. The regulator will review utility procurement figures from August through October to determine whether an official tariff revision is mandatory.
