Monumental Energy Corp. has announced its intention to acquire an ownership stake in the Maata oil field, located in the Taranaki Basin of New Zealand. The company will partner with Jetex Energy Limited, New Zealand Energy Corp., and 3TCF Limited in this venture. The Maata Prospect is described as the largest Mount Messenger sandstone target identified in a productive oil play, with nearby fields like Cheal and Copper Moki already producing significant volumes of oil.
The Maata-1 drill site has been secured, and regulatory consents are in place. Drilling is anticipated to begin in the first quarter of 2027, subject to finalizing joint-venture agreements and obtaining government approvals. Successful production from Maata-1 could link into nearby facilities like the Waihapa Production Station, enabling easy market access via existing pipelines.
Maximilian Sali, CEO of Monumental Energy, commented on the opportunity, highlighting the profitable oil market with Brent crude forecasted to remain above $100 USD into 2027. The company is also advancing its proprietary chemicals program, with a new 'Organic Crude Oil Stabilizer' expected to improve oil flow and production efficiency in the Taranaki Basin.
Additionally, Monumental and NZEC are pursuing an extension of the Ngaere Mining License to include the Beaconsfield Prospect, which is tied to productive zones in existing wells. The company's focus remains on optimizing production and exploring new opportunities in the Taranaki Basin.
