Morocco Subsidizes Soft Wheat Imports Amid Rising Global Prices
Morocco has announced that it will provide a flat subsidy of up to 20.80 dirhams ($2.25) per quintal of imported soft wheat between September 16 and 30.
The move comes as global wheat prices have risen since the beginning of September, driven in part by renewed tensions around the Black Sea, one of the world's major grain-exporting regions.
Russia and Ukraine continue to influence international prices due to attacks on grain-export infrastructure that have disrupted wheat flows through the Black Sea.
The government aims to ensure that Moroccan mills can obtain soft wheat at a price of no more than 270 dirhams per quintal by covering additional costs above that threshold.
