Moscow Credits Crude Supplies for Helping India Weather Energy Disruptions

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Andrey Rudenko has credited Moscow's crude oil supplies for helping India mitigate the impact of West Asian war on global energy flows. The conflict in West Asia disrupted traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, causing delays and shortages.

According to Rudenko, existing arrangements between India and Russia helped 'significantly mitigate' the consequences of these disruptions. He noted that Moscow could meet demand from its partners even in difficult geopolitical conditions.

In March 2023, India's Russian crude imports nearly doubled to 2.25 million barrels per day (bpd) and accounted for half of its oil purchases, following a sharp decline in Gulf shipments after the war broke out.
