Mukinbudin Women Explore Innovative Farming Systems in Western Australia
Twelve women from Mukinbudin in Western Australia's Wheatbelt region embarked on an educational study tour to the Ord Valley, a significant agricultural hub. The trip was organized by Elders Mukinbudin Branch Manager Maree Le Moignan as part of the United Nations' International Year of the Woman Farmer 2026.
The initiative aimed to recognize women's crucial contributions to agriculture and food security while highlighting opportunities to address gender inequalities across agrifood systems. During their visit, participants explored the Ord Valley irrigation scheme and visited local farming properties to gain insights into irrigated agriculture and diverse cropping systems.
Tourists also toured the Kununurra Cotton Gin and Ord Co-operative, learning about cotton processing, agricultural retail, and farming in a remote region. Participants praised the tour's unique aspect, seeing how growers in the Ord Valley collaborate to support each other and the broader agricultural industry.
