Mumbai CNG Prices Hike by Rs 2/kg as Piped Gas Costs Increase by Re 1/unit

The prices of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and piped cooking gas in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) have increased by Rs 2 per kg and Rs 1 per unit, respectively. The hike takes effect from today, impacting a large number of commuters who rely on CNG for their daily needs.

The new price of CNG is now Rs 88 per kg, up from the previous rate of Rs 86 per kg. This revision affects over 12 lakh vehicles in the region, including 4.7 lakh auto-rickshaws and 1.6 lakh taxis. The increase will also impact private car owners who use CNG as a fuel source.

The price of piped cooking gas has been hiked to Rs 53 per unit from Rs 52 per unit. This change will add to the daily expenses of over 31 lakh households in MMR. An official from Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) stated that the increase is due to a significant rise in input gas prices linked to international indices.

The hike is the fourth CNG price revision this financial year, with previous increases in May and April. The increased cost burden has raised concerns among auto-taxi drivers and owners, who are planning to organize a morcha to protest against the hike.
