Gold prices in Mumbai surged on August 17, 2026, with 24-karat gold reaching ₹15,566 per gram, a gain of ₹53 from the previous session. The upward trend continued for all three major purity categories, with 22-karat and 18-karat gold trading at ₹14,270 and ₹11,676 per gram, respectively.

The increase in gold prices comes amid global economic and geopolitical concerns, which have contributed to a weaker US dollar and renewed tensions. This has led to increased demand for gold as an investment vehicle, pushing prices higher.

According to the latest rates, 24-karat gold rose by ₹331 per gram over the past 10 days, while 22-karat gold gained ₹305 per gram during the same period. The data shows that both 24K and 22K gold are substantially higher than their August 8 levels.

The final cost of buying gold, however, is influenced by making charges and GST, which can significantly increase the amount payable. For jewellery buyers, it's essential to consider these additional costs when purchasing gold.
