The Bombay Milk Producers' Association (BMPA) has announced a price hike of Rs 9 per litre for wholesale milk in Mumbai, effective September 1. This decision comes due to rising cattle feed and maintenance costs. The new prices will see the cost of milk increase from Rs 93 to Rs 102 per litre in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR). Direct farm-supplied milk is expected to cost up to Rs 110 per litre.

This move follows Gokul, Maharashtra's biggest cooperative milk union, increasing its retail buffalo milk price by Rs 2 per litre. The hike has been attributed to an increased procurement price paid to dairy farmers. The BMPA's decision will impact not only consumers but also businesses that rely heavily on milk, particularly during the upcoming festive season.

In related news, Mahanagar Gas Limited (MGL) has raised CNG and PNG prices due to higher input gas costs amid the ongoing crisis in West Asia. The company cited international-index-linked prices for imported spot Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) as a significant factor.
