National Fuel Gas (NFG) is reportedly exploring strategic options for its natural gas production business, according to an unnamed source.
The news comes as Integrated names with an upstream arm inside a broader utility or midstream structure have periodically revisited the separation question, typically when management judges the market is valuing the whole below the sum of the parts.
Precedent on comparable upstream separations has been mixed: some have crystallised value cleanly, others have stalled when the gas price backdrop softened mid-process or when buyer financing tightened.
