National PNG Drive 3.0 Launched to Boost India's Natural Gas Mix
India's Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri launched National PNG Drive 3.0, aiming to boost natural gas in the country's energy mix.
The drive will run from October 1 to March 31, 2027, with a focus on activating dormant connections, maximising existing city gas distribution networks, and expanding PNG in semi-urban and rural areas.
The Minister stated that the goal is to increase natural gas's share in India's primary energy mix from around 6 per cent, making better use of existing infrastructure and encouraging the shift from LPG to PNG.
The drive targets 50 lakh new domestic piped natural gas connections, 40 lakh conversions to active users, and another 50 lakh domestic piped natural gas registrations, building on the progress made under PNG Drive 2.0 which ensured 12.10 lakh connections, 13.37 lakh billed connections, and 15.31 lakh DPNG registrations.
