Natural Gas Futures Rally on Supply Tightness Despite Weak Weather Outlook
Natural gas futures extended their winning streak for the third consecutive session on Tuesday, despite a lack of support from two-week weather forecasts. The rally was primarily driven by tightening supply-demand fundamentals in the market. Production drops and lagging stock levels in the South Central region contributed to the bullish sentiment, counteracting the typically bearish influence of weather patterns.
The market's strength persisted even as the 'incredibly strong' El Niño weather phenomenon weighed on winter demand expectations. This climate event typically leads to warmer temperatures and reduced heating needs, which usually puts downward pressure on natural gas prices. However, the current supply constraints appear to be outweighing these seasonal factors.
