Natural Gas Prices Plummet 5% Amid Storage Surpluses and Milder Winter Forecasts
The Natural Gas Weekly Spot Prices report from Energy Intelligence for September 18, 2026, shows that prices are continuing their downward trend. The Henry Hub price dropped to $2.75 per million British thermal units (MMBtu), a decrease of 5% compared to the previous week.
This decline is attributed to increased production and storage levels, which have put upward pressure on supply. According to the report, working gas in storage stood at 3,434 billion cubic feet (Bcf) as of September 11, with an implied deficit of 1,164 Bcf compared to the five-year average.
The decrease in prices is also influenced by weather forecasts indicating milder temperatures for the upcoming winter season. This could lead to lower demand for natural gas and further downward pressure on prices.
