Natural Gas Prices Plummet to 11-Week Low on Record Output
US natural gas futures plummeted to an 11-week low on Monday, falling by 4% to $2.767 per million British thermal units (mmBtu) on record output, reduced exports to liquefied natural gas (LNG) plants, and high storage levels.
The front-month gas contract on the New York Mercantile Exchange for August delivery dropped 10.4 cents or 3.6% to its lowest level since May 7.
According to data from LSEG, average US natural gas output rose to a record high of 110.6 billion cubic feet per day (bcfd) in July, surpassing the previous all-time high set in December 2025.
LSEG also reported that daily output reached an unprecedented level of 112.3 bcfd on Sunday, exceeding prior highs of 112.2 and 112.1 bcfd on Saturday and December 21, 2025, respectively.
