WTI Crude Falls Below $82 as US-Iran Diplomatic Hopes Grow

Oil prices have been in decline as expectations for ceasefire talks between the US and Iran continue to grow. WTI has fallen below $82 a barrel, while Brent is trading near $88. The recent easing of military tensions and hopes for diplomatic resolution have led to a pullback from this month's sharp gains.

The US and Iran are holding talks on ending the Middle East conflict, according to President Donald Trump. However, it remains unclear whether substantive negotiations are underway between the two countries.

Despite the decrease in oil prices, concerns over crude supply persist due to the ongoing issue of tanker traffic through the Strait of Hormuz. Officials from Iran and Oman are discussing the resumption of vessel traffic, which could pave the way for renewed ceasefire talks.

Scott Shelton, an energy specialist at TP ICAP Group, noted that 'we need clear evidence that oil is actually moving through the Strait of Hormuz, but we haven’t seen that yet.'
