Nebraska Candidates Clash Over Iran War and Rising Prices
Nebraska's 1st Congressional District is gearing up for election day, and two candidates are going head-to-head in their debate. Republican Rep. Mike Flood is running for reelection against Democratic challenger Chris Backemeyer.
The debate focused on several key issues, including the ongoing war with Iran and its impact on prices in Nebraska. The average price of diesel in the state reached a record high of $6.21 on Monday, according to AAA. This has been devastating for farmers, who are already facing a combined $1 billion in losses for corn and soybeans due to rising fertilizer costs.
Rep. Flood emphasized the need to honor the memory of service members who have given their lives in the war against Iran, while also bringing down prices. He stated that cutting and running like President Biden did in Afghanistan is not an option.
Backemeyer countered by saying that his opponent and others are 'over their head' when it comes to foreign policy and national security.
