NEGF Unveils Regional Energy Agenda, Urges FG to Complete Mambila Hydropower Plant
The Northeast Governors' Forum (NEGF) has adopted a regional energy agenda to tackle power supply issues in the sub-region. The forum aims to take advantage of the region's abundant sunshine and new electricity law to expand solar and mini-grid technologies.
The governors, led by Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, commended President Bola Tinubu for paying attention to rail and highway projects in the region. However, they called on the Federal Government to revisit oil exploration activities that stalled in Magumeri and Gubio Local Government Areas of Borno State.
The forum also resolved to partner with Green Ville Energy to build more Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) stations across the region. This is expected to reduce transportation costs. The governors thanked the Federal Government for providing 10,000 electric tricycles, 10 electric buses, and 300 electric taxis.
The meeting was attended by five governors from the North-East region, with Bauchi State and Yobe State represented by their Deputy Governors. Since its inaugural meeting in March 2020, the Forum has maintained unity among its members, delivering real infrastructural development.
