Nepal Economy Shows Resilience Amid Structural Challenges
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) has rebounded after four consecutive sessions of decline, closing at 2,685.54 points on Friday, a 0.48 percent increase from the previous day.
Gold prices have also risen to Rs 285,000 per tola in the domestic market, while silver reached Rs 4,360 per tola. The rebound of NEPSE and rising gold prices indicate investor confidence has stabilized after recent declines, with safe-haven assets remaining in demand amid uncertainty.
The Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB) reported its total assets and liabilities have reached Rs 3.874 trillion by mid-July 2026, a significant increase from the previous fiscal year's Rs 2.671 trillion. The NRB balance sheet expansion is supported by growing foreign exchange assets.
The government has directed institutions to return education and health equality fees to payers within 15 days or deposit unclaimed funds into the Federal Consolidated Fund. Additionally, the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) proposals for investment and tax relief have been supported by the government.
