Nepal Highway Collapse Disrupts LPG Supply to Kathmandu

A highway collapse in Nepal's Krishna Bhir has severed the Chitwan-Prithvi Highway, disrupting the supply of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) to Kathmandu.

Nepal Oil Corporation has authorized LPG firms to fill cylinders outside the capital after the road closure left gas tanker trucks unable to reach the valley.

According to Dewan Chand, president of the Nepal LP Gas Industry Association, 16 industries in Kathmandu Valley and neighboring districts have lost their direct supply line. An additional 40 percent of gas is required to meet total consumption in these areas, with filling plants outside the capital stepping in to cover the gap.

The reroute adds distance and handling at every stage, with each cylinder filled outside the valley now traveling farther over hill roads before reaching a household. Distributors are urging consumers not to stockpile gas, assuring that supplies will be maintained despite the disruption.
