Nevada's Only Crude Oil Refinery Back Online After Year-Long Shutdown
Nevada's only crude oil refinery has restarted production after receiving an air permit from the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection. The Eagle Springs Refinery, located near Ely, Nevada, officially restarted operations on Thursday.
The refinery was shut down in the fourth quarter of 2025 due to boiler repair and related issues, according to Securities and Exchange Commission filings from Foreland Refining Corporation, the operator of the refinery since its acquisition by Sky Quarry in 2022. To prepare for the reopening, the refinery received around $300,000 in repairs and upgrades.
Sky Quarry's Interim Chief Executive Officer Marcus Laun stated that receiving this permit and restarting the refinery is a major step for the company. He added that Nevada has relied on fuel refined elsewhere for too long.
