NevGold Shares Slide as Gold Prices Retreat from Highs
NevGold Corp. (TSXV:NAU) experienced a sharp decline on Monday, hitting its lowest close in months as gold prices retreated from recent highs. The stock dropped to 88 cents, down 7 cents from Friday's close of 95 cents, after opening at 97 cents and peaking briefly at 98 cents. Trading volume reached about 249,000 shares, with the company's market value standing at roughly $154 million by the end of the day.
The decline extended a rough stretch for NevGold, with the stock falling about a fifth over the prior week and significantly below the $2 level it held in early July. The drop coincided with a pullback in gold prices, which traded around US$4,153 an ounce on Monday, down US$65 from Friday and US$218 below its peak a month earlier. As a junior explorer without revenue, NevGold's share price is particularly sensitive to fluctuations in gold prices.
Despite the recent weakness, NevGold has been actively advancing its projects. On September 29, the company announced that geophysical surveys had defined nine drill targets at its Nutmeg Mountain gold project in Idaho, with plans to begin drilling within the next three to six months. Additionally, on September 17, NevGold reported drill results from its Limousine Butte gold-antimony project in Nevada that extended oxide gold mineralization. The company aims to complete a preliminary economic assessment for Nutmeg Mountain by 2027.
Looking ahead, the stock's performance will likely continue to track gold prices, with potential catalysts including the start of drilling at Nutmeg Mountain and further assay results from Limousine Butte. Any financing announcements could also impact the stock, as exploration companies often raise funds to support drilling activities, which may dilute existing shareholders.
