New Mexico's gas prices have surged by 13 cents over the past week, according to AAA. The statewide average now stands at $4.10 per gallon, which is a whopping $1.24 higher than this time last year.

The current New Mexico average also sits slightly above the national average of $4.10 per gallon, with some areas experiencing more significant increases than others. Farmington recorded the highest average gas price at $4.44 per gallon, while Las Cruces had the lowest at $4.04 per gallon.

AAA reported price increases in all four metropolitan areas it tracks across the state: Santa Fe (up 22 cents), Farmington (up 21 cents), Albuquerque (up 16 cents), and Las Cruces (up 1 cent). Analysts say higher crude oil prices continue to put pressure on fuel costs, with West Texas Intermediate crude oil settling at $85.83 per barrel.
